The Social Work Department of Cherry Hospital provides services according to the needs of the patient population. . Social workers are assigned to the various specialty programs which include services to adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

Adhering to the Social Work Code of Ethics, social workers practice on the premise that the person to be helped must be seen within the context of his/her interaction within the environment. The ultimate goal is to prepare the individual for successful return to the community via an array of clinical and referral services to the patient and family. The social worker is one of the core members on the interdisciplinary treatment team which will assess and plan for a patient's individualized treatment and discharge needs. The social worker also serves as a primary liaison between patient, family, treatment team and community resources. Services include evaluations and assessments; treatment plan development; individual, family and group therapy/ counseling; patient/family education; information and referral services; and discharge planning.

Committed to the enhancement of social work skills and knowledge base, interns from accredited schools of social work are accepted and work under master level staff. Social workers must possess a Master's of Social Work and be licensed at the Clinical Social Work level or LCSW eligible.
