A medical record is kept on each person admitted to the facility. This record summarizes the clinical findings and treatment a person receives as a patient. The Medical Records Department is comprised of 28 employees. These employees maintain the patient record during hospitalization and after discharge, transcribe medical dictation, and compile statistics.

The Central Medical Records Department is located in Linville Building. This location houses patient records from 1982 to the present day.

bulletAccess to a patient's medical record is controlled by the General Statutes of North Carolina (GS 122C-52-53).
bulletAll information related to the care and treatment of a patient is considered confidential.
bulletNo part of a patient's medical record may be released without the expressed written permission of the patient.
