Geriatric Admissions Unit, provides treatment for patients 60 years and older. The unit is co-ed. While most of the patients in the unit are dealing with varying degrees of confusion and/or disorientation associated with dementia, there are others which have chronic and persistent mental illness. Although patients are usually ambulatory many suffer from age-related physical illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis or cardiovascular disease. Most require some assistance with their basic needs. The objective of the unit is re-motivation, reorientation, and rehabilitation of patients in an effort to return them to their community and families. Patients receive multidisciplinary active treatment programming. Programs are geared specifically and individually to assist the patient in achieving his/her ultimate potential. |
