Process |
Applicants for
certified positions are required to undergo a drug screening and
background investigation. The investigation checks the applicant's work
history, personal references and criminal history. |

The
department contributes monthly premium payments for each employee
which will provide unemployment compensation benefits to employees
leaving department employment under qualifying circumstances. |
Workers'
compensation |
All
employees are covered at no cost with benefits payable for injury,
occupational disease, disability or death occurring while working in
an official capacity for the department. |

State of NC Retirement
System |
Permanent
employees working at least 30 hours per week for nine months of the
year become a member of the state retirement system. |

| Evaluation |
A Performance
Management System work plan is completed with each hospital
employee to assess each individual’s work performance as well as
age-specific clinical competence, where appropriate. The work plan also
includes a development plan which allows for the identification of
performance and/or work behavior issues in need of improvement to be
documented and targeted for appropriate follow-up. |
