| Therapeutic Recreation is a department within
Rehabilitation Services at Cherry Hospital. Therapeutic Recreation Specialists are assigned to
the following specialty units: Psychiatric Rehabilitation Unit, Adolescent Unit, and Geriatric
Admissions. We are seeking goal-oriented, energetic interns with a willingness to learn and share innovative ideas regarding therapeutic programming while establishing fundamental work skills that will prepare you for successful employment in the field of TR. Our internship program will provide you practical training experience as an integral part of the education process and help qualify you to become certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). As an intern, you will begin by observing the TRS learning documentation and assessment protocols, agency procedures, group dynamics, establishing rapport with clients, etc. As your internship progresses you will gradually take on increased responsibility in planning, implementing and evaluating TR groups, documentation and reporting during interdisciplinary treatment team meetings. In addition to providing a variety of work experiences, our program provides you the opportunity to develop/enhance confidence, objectivity, creativity and diplomacy.All our internship supervisors are nationally certified by NCTRC requirements and have a minimum of one year full-time experience within Cherry Hospital’s TR Department.
