The Pharmacy and Central Services Department at Cherry Hospital has a dual mission. It is the goal of this department to provide:
The department is staffed by licensed pharmacists, all of whom maintain continuing competencies as a requirement of yearly re-licensure. In addition, a support staff is available to provide technical assistance. While the department is open 76 hours a week, there is always a pharmacist on call when the department is closed to provide services if needed. The department maintains a patient-specific unit-dose drug distribution system and utilizes a computer system to enter and access patient information and track drug-drug and drug-food interactions. In addition, each pharmacist has clinical responsibilities in patient care units and provides information services to patients and staff on an as needed basis with the aim of maximizing the efficiency of pharmacotherapy and improving patient outcomes. The Central Services section of the department exists to provide for the storage, distribution, and accountability of medical supplies for patient use. It is supervised by a pharmacist, and services are available during the workday and after hours as needed.
